Tribal Fusion is a mesmerizing dance form which contrasts slow, oozing movements with extremely quick, sharp pops and locks. Elements of American cabaret belly dance are combined with moves that have been borrowed from other sub-genres that form the pan-bellydance spectrum, as well as from pretty much any other dance form there is! (Part of what makes fusion so much fun!) I specialize in a style that borrows heavily from american hip-hop and pop-lock, which I found so appealing because it is both out-of-reach-exotic and immediately familiar. Belly dance is an incredibly fun way to get in shape and condition one's body, but more than that is extremely empowering, a way to connect with one's self, to build self-esteem, and promote cultural awareness by taking part in a dance form who's roots are ancient and wide-spread. Beginner-intermediate level classes are currently offered twice a week at The United Dance Academy in East Dallas: Monday and Thursdy evenings 7-8:20. Classes begin with a yoga-style warm up designed to develope one's mind-body connection, and to promote the core strength and the flexibility needed to create both slow, serpentine movements, as well as sharp pops and locks. Moves are first broken down, then drilled for further conditioning. Short combinations are then introduced so that students can then begin to familiarize themselves with the full stylization of the Tribal Fusion Belly Dance.
