Thanks for visiting!
Everyone has a certain gift, one that is all their own. With that gift comes a responsibility to one's self and to the world. As an artist, I
struggle with the selfish-seemingness of what I do, but I believe that it is my responsibility to take the gift that I have and use it to
create beauty in the world. No matter how big or small the project, whether it's a tiny tattoo that makes my client feel more beautiful, a
dance class that helps one to feel more connected to their own body, or a mural that enliven's one's workspace, I know that I have
done my part. Working closely with another individual in each project is always a wellspring of new ideas, and each person I have
the fortune of working with helps to make me a better artist.
I am a tattooer and freelance artist working in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I have been an artist
from birth: an avid painter my entire life, a professional tattoo artist for 10 years, a dancer for 10 years, a dance instructor since 2008,
and more!
I was raised and lived in rural Vermont until moving to Dallas in 2006. My personal aesthetic was heavily influenced by the
environment in which I grew up, and the people I encountered and interacted with on a daily basis. My interest in the organic forms
found in nature and the inherent beauty in landscapes is readily apparent in my artwork. I received a bachelors degree in studio art
from the University of Vermont in 2002. While there I involved myself with as many art mediums as I could, including ceramics,
printmaking, and others, as well as different kinds of painting and drawing.
Two semesters spent studying abroad led to a deeper investigation of all of the experiences and interactions that impacted my
sense of style, and furthermore how the artistic traditions of any one culture influence those of another. This is particularly prominent
in the fields of tattooing and belly dancing, both of which became important parts of my life after these studies abroad. I began to
appreciate art not only as a form of intense personal expression, but also as a method of transmitting and learning about cultural
values, and of promoting global awereness.
I began my tattoo apprenticeship while I was a student at UVM. I continued working in Vermont after graduation, until moving to Texas
and working at a few shops in the DFW area. The fact that I was a painter before I began tattooing helped me to develop a unique
style of work which reflects my style of painting. Through dancing, I was able to familiarize myself with the musculature of the body
and the way bodies move as they dance. This knowledge helps me to better design a tattoo that compliments an individuals unique
form.
My creative movement background began with figure skating and started at an early age. It evolved to an interest in world dance
forms after seeing Balinese dance for the first time during one of my college trips. A post-graduation return trip to Bali was spent in
an intensive study of the dance form. After returning to the States I discovered belly dancing and immediately fell in love. More
specifically, I discovered Tribal Fusion belly dancing, and knew I had found my true home.
Each medium with which I work contributes to the growth of all of the others, therefore strengthening my skills in each area. A
random experiment in painting contributes to the design of a new dance costume; a new dance costume may lead to a new
choreography; a new choreography may lead to an idea for a new tattoo; a new tatto leads me to a random experiment in painting.
